Unemployment insurance can cover a third of your lost income. Job Service is the state agency that manages UI and we're ready to help you apply. You can get an overview of unemployment insurance here.

 

Are you struggling to find a job?

Our staff can help you look for jobs and give you tips on how to find positions you're qualified for. We host job fairs across the state each year. Our offices also have on-site mini job fairs monthly. They also have employers set up to do on-site interviews for multiple positions. You can also search on ND Workforce Connection, the official job posting site for North Dakota, with both private and public sector jobs. We also have a tip sheet for job applications.

 

Do you want to change careers, but don't know where to start?

Job Service can advise you on how to switch and help you make a plan. You can learn more about various industries by listening to our podcast, The Job Pod. Our list of in-demand occupations is updated regularly and can show you which industries are hiring.

 

Are you putting in lots of job applications and not getting interviews?

If you stop in at a workforce center, Job Service staff can look at your resume with you, then offer suggestions for improving it. Welcome! We think you'll find North Dakota a great place to live and work. Job Service has several programs for new Americans. We can help you navigate the process of getting a job in the US, including how it may differ from what you're used to. We can also direct you toward assistance programs you may qualify for.

 

Are you a single parent struggling to support your family?

We have programs that can help you get a better job. Specific programs are designed to help single parents, such as TANF, PRIDE, and JOBS.

 

Are you under the age of 21 and pregnant or the primary caregiver of a child?

Job Service can help you get your high school diploma or GED.

 

Have you struggled find transportation to job interviews or to your job?

Our department has programs that can help someone who doesn't own a car or doesn't have a drivers license get to their interview. We also help long-term to help you get to work, regardless of what is holding you back.

 

Do you need help paying for college or for professional training, such as certificates or licenses?

Job Service has a number of programs that provide assistance based on income and other factors. Many applicants who don't think they will qualify eventually do, thanks to working with employment advisors who understand the different requirements for different state and federal assistance programs.

 

Are you unsure how to talk about a gap in your employment, perhaps due to college or incarceration?

Our employment advisors can work with you for how best to explain this gap on resumes or during interviews.

 

Do you have an employer who is interested in hiring you, but you need additional skills?

Job Service has a variety of programs that can help connect you with training and even pay for it, depending on your income and other barriers to employment.

 

Would the next level of your position require additional training or certification?

Our department has programs geared toward helping you earn more money at your current employer by getting further training or even a degree.

 

Are you looking for your first job?

Job Service has special programs for young people who are just starting in the workforce, which include the department contacting your desired employer for job placement and paying for expenses.

 

Are outdated degrees and professional certifications holding you back?

Some fields, such as information technology, change rapidly, so a degree from even just a decade ago may cause employers to hesitate to hire you. We can help you get new certifications, which will show them your skills are current.

 

Would you like a better understanding of American work culture?

We know not every country has the same social expectations at work. We host workshops to advise people about how to get and keep a job in the US.
