Cheri Giesen is the Executive Director of Job Service.  She leads the state's workforce agency, which has approximately 160 employees throughout the state and a two-year budget of nearly 80 million. Job Service delivers specific services to targeted workforce sectors, administers the state and federal unemployment insurance program, and provides comprehensive labor market information. Job Service has nine regional offices throughout the state to help serve its customers.

Giesen has more than 25 years of experience in organizational management and information technology including six years as Job Service North Dakota’s Information Technology Manager, a position she held from 2000 to 2005. During that time she oversaw Job Service North Dakota’s statewide information systems, helped develop the agency’s strategic plans, and executed operational strategies.

Giesen also held several management positions within North Dakota state government including positions with the North Dakota Attorney General’s office, the North Dakota Supreme Court, and the North Dakota Department of Transportation. She most recently supervised the management information systems at Basic Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck from 2005 to July 2014.  

Giesen holds a master’s degree in Business Management, bachelor of science degrees in Computer Information Systems and Accounting, and earned a minor in Business Administration with honors – all from the University of Mary. She also received a Certificate of Leadership from the university.

Giesen grew up on a farm near Plaza, North Dakota where her family still farms and ranches. Cheri and her husband, Gene, are residents of Bismarck. They have two daughters.
