2009 Law Enforcement & Corrections/Detention Exams

The Cities of Bismarck, Mandan, and Minot, and Burleigh and Morton Counties are combining efforts to test applicants for law enforcement patrol and detention and correction officer positions that may be available in the future. If you are interested in becoming a Bismarck, Mandan, or Minot Police Officer, a Burleigh, or Morton County Deputy Sheriff or Detention Officer, the first step in the process is to successfully pass a written Law Enforcement or Corrections exam. These entry-level service exams assess ability to learn and apply Law Enforcement or Corrections information, remember details, use judgement and logic, verbal ability, ability to follow directions, and inductive and deductive reasoning.

To register and schedule testing:

• Obtain an exam application from the Job Service North Dakota or the Human Resources offices at the Cities of Bismarck, or Minot, Burleigh County, or Morton County. 
• A non-refundable $25.00 money order test fee must accompany the exam application and must be received three (3) weeks prior to test date. Please indicate which exam you are applying for. No one will be allowed to test without confirmation of a pre-paid application and picture identification. Test dates with less than 5 applicants may be cancelled.
• Mail to the address on the exam application.

In Bismarck, exams are administered at Job Service North Dakota, 1601 East Century Avenue, Bismarck, ND, unless otherwise notified. All exams begin promptly at 6:00 p.m.

Minot Police Deparment Job Service North Dakota - Minot will be administering the Law Enforcement Exam at 3416 North Broadway, Minot, ND, starting promptly at 1:00 p.m.. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes early.
