President Signs Unemployment Insurance Benefits Extension
Date: 07/23/2010
On July 22, 2010, President Obama signed legislation passed by Congress that extends the filing deadline for EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation), the federal extension of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. The legislation does not add any additional weeks of unemployment benefits to the federal extension, it only extends the deadline to file for and receive benefits through the federal extension.
The recent extension makes Saturday, November 27, 2010, the deadline for filing for a federal extension of UI benefits. Individuals who file an EUC claim prior to November 27, 2010, may potentially receive benefit payments through April 30, 2011.
The extension passed on July 22nd includes a retroactive clause that allows individuals whose benefits ran out between late May 2010 and the present time to file for and potentially receive extended benefits for the timeframe for which they would have been eligible if the program had not expired. Job Service North Dakota will mail notification letters to all potentially eligible individuals.
If you have any questions concerning the EUC program, contact the UI Claims Center at 701-328-4995 and choose option 3 after the language choice.
