Date: 01/22/2010

Bismarck – Job Service North Dakota (JSND) reported that labor statistics released today show North Dakota’s December not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent. The rate is 0.6 percentage points higher than prior month, and 0.9 percentage points above the same period of prior year. The state continues to be considerably lower than the national (9.7 percent) rate, which increased 0.3 percentage points over the month. Michael Ziesch, Research Analyst for Job Service stated, “The between month rate increase for the state is not unusual as jobs occurring primarily outside are suspended for the winter. As well, the weather in November was very nice allowing many projects to be completed in that month.”
